La Botana opened its doors in 2004. July and Rigo Herrera Velasqez created La Botana as a way to share a part of their culture through food while providing job security and a comfortable, safe place of work for every single person involved in creating their vision.
Food is their life investment, their career, it is just what they do!
July Herrera Velasqez is the owner and manager of the restaurant, while her husband, Rigo has been the primary chef since they served their first customer. He is assisted by his mother, Reyna Herrera whose specialties include Orchata, Sopes and Salsas.
The Hernandez family moved to Winston-Salem in 1992 from California. Previously they move to California at the young age of 3 and 5. Their ancestors are from different states of Mexico: Nuevo Leon, Jalisco and San Luis Potosi. This varied heritage is the basis for the differences in the menu.
